August 26th, 2018 - (BINGHAMTON) - Runners lined up near Recreation Park in the City of Binghamton for the second annual Binghamton Porchfest 10k put on by the Empire Road Race Series. The course was a USA Track and Field Certified 10k that made its way through the West Side of Binghamton. The course finished near Abel's Pub that is located on 65 Rotary Avenue.

Women's Runner Up was Rachel Johnson in a time of 44:02.

The Binghamton Porchfest 10k was the 5th race in the Empire Road Race Series. The series encourages running and racing local in Broome County. The race series includes:

Triple Cities Runners Club (TCRC) Legend, Harland Bigelow, races in the Binghamton Porchfest 10k. He's inspired thousands of runners and generations of athletes.

In addition to the race, Abel's Pub put on a great after party with Food and Drink! You can never have a great race without a great party.


The winner of the Binghamton Porchfest 10k was John Salva. A local runner from Conklin, New York. Salva has won both the Kelly LaBare 5k during the 2018 Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally and the Sunset Runway 5k at the Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM). John Salva won the Sunset Runway 5k in 17:30, the Kelly LaBare 5k in 16:19, and the Binghamton Porchfest 10k in 33:55. Runner up was former Binghamton University Running Club president Jigar Gosalia 34:15.

Course chip timing, results, and awards were provided by Fast Track Timing. Fast Track Timing is a race timing company that works out of Roxbury, CT. This race was hosted by the Empire Road Race Series. Sponsors included:

Matthew Francis Gawors is a lifelong endurance athlete. He specialized in the 800m in High School and switched to marathons in college. In 2009, he switched over to competing primarily in Triathlons. His passion and goal is to support the Binghamton community by improving their physical, emotional, and financial health through physical fitness events and tourism. He owns the running special store, Confluence Running, has worked as the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Services for Broome County, and currently is employed by Binghamton University as the Aquatics Director for Health and Wellness Studies.
